| Patrimony
Fontcouverte - La Toussuire owns a rich, baroque legacy. In fact,
five chapals and two churches were built in the course of the centuries.
Dates of restauration are known from 1650 onwards. |

But remains dating back from previous periods testify
to the ancientness of these monuments : paved floor of Les Villards chapel,
dates engraved on stones, …

Baroque
appeared in Savoy in the middle of the 16th century, in reaction
again Protestantism. The nave of Foncouverte church was rebuilt
between 1675 and 1680. During the following years, painters and
sculptors achieved baroque works, inspired by contemporary trends.
Fontcouverte N.D. de la Salette chapel was rebuilt
in 1742. Its ceiling is adorned with 24 paintings. Throughout high
seasons, guided visits are regurlarly organised. |

On the first floor of the Tourist Office,
this free exhibition gives you the opportunity to discover numerous objects
dating from our village elders : old skis, wooden ploughs, tools,… You'll
be amazed by their ingenious designs.
This museum was made possible thanks to the A.V.E.C. (association for
cultural and environmental development) The A.V.E.C. also installed 2
viewpoint indicators (Tête de Bellard, Trois Croix) and organises cultural
events : concerts in Fontcouverte church, alpine floral exhibitions in
summer, …
Positive about the demand for tradition, sheperds and cheese
makers from the Arvan valley elaborate high quality cheese,
thanks to Tarine and Abondance cows.
In summer, milk is collected in pastures (up to 2500 m high) and
is immediately processed at the cheese dairy in a combination
of strict modern technique and tradition.

The opinel is a typical French
object. Did you konow it was devised in our valley, more than
100 years ago ? To know more about this exceptionnal knife, visit
the Opinel Museum.
You'll see a video on its making and exhibition in the farmer
workshop. From monday to Saturday : 9.00 AM to 12.00 PM - 2.00
PM to 7.00 PM admission free.
